Hugh C. Nichols papers, 1901-1964, bulk 1928-1948.

Papers of Hugh C. Nichols, primarily relating to his involvement in the 20th Infantry Regiment Spanish-American War Veterans Association. Pertinent documents included membership applications (his own and others), the association's constitution, a history of the regiment, a collection of poetry by the regiment's poet laureate, Cora Willis, minutes of annual reunion meetings, and membership roster lists from 1935 to 1937. Other items include Christmas cards, postcards, brochures, and pamphlets collected by Nichols. Included in this section is a personal letter from former President Harry Truman. Artifacts consist of items collected by Hugh Nichols following his Spanish-American War service. Included are a banner of the 20th Infantry Regiment's headquarters, Nichols' ribbons from various annual reunions of the veterans association, a Mauser bullet removed from the stock of a rifle, and the sign of the official car of the Spanish War Veterans. Nichols was also a member and quartermaster of the United Spanish War Veterans Association, Colonel William C. Smith Camp No. 20, and a roster list of the camp from 1964 is also in the collection.
